Architects Testimonial
"I am pleased to provide a reference for Mark Kinnard / Constructive Approach. I found Mark professional and courteous to work with at all times. His approach to the management of the project and control of costs was refreshingly honest and straightforward.
We worked together on a project that had a particularly demanding and well-informed Client. Mark was able to achieve the high level of quality to which the Client aspired."
The grass roof construction project, designed by the renowned architect behind the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, stands out not only for its striking design but also for its executional precision. Remarkably, the entire build progressed from the initial bill of quantities and drawings through to final handover without a single modification from either the client or the architects—an uncommon feat in construction. The roof, which elegantly slopes from 15 to 25 degrees, was initially conceived with bent glulam beams to follow the natural contour of the structure. However, transporting these curved beams from Scandinavia proved prohibitively expensive—exceeding the total cost of the project itself. In response, the design was cleverly adapted to incorporate a cold-rolled I-section steel RSJ, into which the glulam beams slotted seamlessly at each end. This innovative approach maintained the architectural intent while keeping the project within budget.
